Our Story

“When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world.”  George Washington Carver

I watched the movie Amistad. It is the moving account of Africans kidnapped from Sierra Leone and sold into slavery. They take control of the slave ship and end up captured by Americans when the Spanish ship drifts into U.S. waters. They begin a fight to prove that they are free and to return to their home. Just one of many incredible stories of survival, fighting for freedom and dignity that represents the history of all people. Celebrate history, the stories that tell us all who we were and who we are.

New Year, Beginning of Freedom

“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.”  Abraham Lincoln

I have to admit that I didn’t know the history behind the tradition of Watch Services on New Year’s Eve at my baptist church. I simply thought it was the Christian alternative to engaging in drunken and wild behavior; a time to give thanks for the previous year and say prayers for the new one. Yet the tradition of sitting up late and “watching” until the stroke of midnight has a deeper significance. Read the story!

Be It Resolved!

“Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will.” Jonathan Edwards

“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”
Helen Keller

“Let our New Year’s resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.”
Goran Persson
