Finding Peace As Life Closes

Be Encouraged is about good news and few of us think of news about death as good. Still it is apart of life. For people of faith, Christians and non-Christians alike, there is peace in knowing that death is a doorway from life to eternity.

I found this story to be about more than just a cat who sits with dying patients. I’ve been in many nursing homes and they can be grim, cold places for sure. The fact that the staff allows a cat to bring comfort to patients to me says they are kind, compassionate people. The patients they serve are often difficult and those jobs can be depressing. The unfortunate result can be that staff in nursing homes stop seeing the patients as people. How odd that a cat reminds us how to be human.

One of God’s creatures shows us that sometimes love is just being there at the end.
