What are you willing to deal with to achieve your dreams? Many times we pray away our troubles, wish for a life of ease, daydream about winning a mega-millions lottery so we can have a life of comfort. Most of us don’t ever get these things. To be honest I sometimes have said, “Oh Lord, give me loads of money so I can prove that it won’t spoil me.” So far he hasn’t taken me up on this offer!
One Sunday our pastor put it another way- he said, “Sometimes we pray ourselves out of a blessing. God takes us through low valleys so that we can come out better on the other side.” We’re human. We don’t want to suffer. But sometimes we should have patience and just hang tough. Faith is the substance that will carry you through. As one little saying goes, “Count your blessings, not your troubles.” The next time I start to complain about something I’m going to remember an African mother of ten recently shown on Oprah. She works all day to earn less than ten dollars. Or I’m going to think of little Brenda Tejada Baez. Instead of focusing on what she doesn’t have, Brenda finds joy in what she does have, a school she loves and friends that are happy to see her each day. Not even being homeless and moving far away from Louis Agassiz Elementary School stopped her. Talk about a pint-sized S-Hero.
